Hi folks!
Happy New Year and welcome 2017!! I hope you and your family have been enjoying the snow. My kids built a wonderful snow ramp in our backyard that kept them entertained for days!
I’m excited to see everyone at our January Member Social on Thursday, January 12th from 5pm to 8pm at O’Leary’s Bar & Grill. I was not able to attend the past two events and am itching to see people! Please RSVP to let us know you will be coming.

Recently, the Dry Storage had an annual insurance review in which a number of key points were highlighted. The most noted point was the use of electricity on boats without the owner/captain present. Because of the risk of a fire while use of an extension cord or any device plugged into an outlet, it is imperative that someone be present in the event of an electrical mishap. The recent marina fires in Virginia in the last year (Urbanna and Henrico) illustrate the devastation that can happen when boats ignite. This may represent an inconvenience for some but it is for the safety of all. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation.
Most marinas completely shut down their water during the coldest winter months. Marina Shores is too active in the winter to completely shut off the water. Instead we only turn it off when we absolutely have to. Throughout the winter season, a good rule of thumb is to keep watch of the weather temperatures. If the forecast calls for close to freezing temperatures (32˚F) the marina WILL be turning off the water to the docks and dry storage facility to prevent pipes from bursting. This temporary shut down helps us prevent from having to shut down water to the entire property for multiple days due to broken pipes. Keep in mind, water can only be turned back on once any frozen water has thawed. If the outside temperature is in the upper 30’s for example, it may still take until late afternoon or longer to thaw the pipes and run water again. Try to fill your water tank as often as possible. If you are planning on using a work rack in these temperatures, please call the marina ahead of time to make sure water is available.

The WiFi infrastructure is installed! You may have begun to play around with the networks as they appear on your devices. Please know we are still in the testing phase to make sure all equipment is working properly.
I would like to say “Thank You” to our trusted partners at 360 IT Partners who designed and installed the access points with key factors in mind applicable to the particular needs of marinas. A special thanks to our manager, Bryan Simonelli, for overseeing the ground work and managing the project on the marina side. We also had a lot of help from Ted Peterson and Mike Davis to ensure CAT5 cables and power supplies were in place. We appreciate all of their hard work and I promised them a proper ‘happy wifi dance’ once everything was launched.
