Kenny has been a long time, loyal employee at Marina Shores. After returning home from work on September 1st, Kenny found his wife alone with a severe head injury. On Wednesday, September 14th, Kenny had to make the impossible decision to pull her from life support. By her side until the end, he is now faced with this terrible loss, single-income, and planning for funeral expenses.
Thanks to social media and our fabulous family of boaters, we have been able to raise over $2,000 for Kenny in just a few short days. A very special thanks to those who donated. If you would like to contribute, we are accepting cash or check donations in the Marina Admin Office or you may donate online.

We are proud to announce former dockhand (1999-2002) is now the Proprietario of Carrabba’s Italian Grill at Lynnhaven Mall in Virginia Beach! Jason Janezeck is son to Office Manager, Debra Janezeck. 15 years ago, Jason worked hard at Marina Shores cooking at parties, tying up boats, driving tractors and, well….whatever the heck Rusty, Pat or Peanut told him to do. After college, Jason moved to Florida to become a restaurateur and quickly grew within the Carrabba’s family. Just this September, Jason has moved back to Virginia to take ownership of the Lynnhaven Mall Carrabba’s. He and his wife Mandy are expecting their first child in December.
Feel free to stop by Carrabba’s and say hello to Jason when you can!

Due to the new procedures, technology and equipment Cox Communications has inaugurated, Marina Shores is no longer able to offer our bulk cable services as an included amenity. At this time, we have Cox Communications and many tech companies putting together a plan for extending WiFi access throughout the entire marina, using the budget previously assigned for bulk cable, to help serve our customers in response to this change.
Many of our wet slip customers are aware of the complications we have faced recently with Cox Cable’s decision to integrate cable mini-boxes. For over 27 years Marina Shores has had cable hook-up at our docks and offered our customers connection to our cable service. This past Spring, Cox introduced the mini-boxes (physical devices required in order to access cable services). In order to integrate these new boxes, Cox Communications required Marina Shores to not only store 200 cable mini boxes in our office, but also issue, track and maintain each and every box. These boxes also came with the change that our customers were no longer able to pick and choose their own individual services in addition to the free cable we were already offering. If a customer had our free cable service, they would not be able to add on internet or special program packages without having to pay for the entire package, including basic cable, themselves. “No piggybacking off a bulk account” was the term used. With no room for negotiation on this matter, we had to make the decision to not participate in the cable box procedure.
The electric pedestals are still equipped with cable hook-up. Should a customer choose to purchase cable, internet or other services through Cox Communications, they may do so by setting up their own account through which the mini-box would be tracked. Please keep in mind, though, that we will be offering wifi connection A-Dock all the way through I-Dock by Spring of 2017.
I personally apologize to all our customers for not being able to communicate this to the entirety in a timely manner. A full month went by faster than I realized but I am thankful to those who called, emailed, or came to our monthly social to discuss and get a verbal update. – Taylor Malbon
CONGRATULATIONS to the B-Dock team!!! They were challenged with four games for August’s DockWars:
The “Cotton Ball Nose” – Using Vaseline and your nose only, move cotton balls from one ball to another in under a minute.
The “Marshmallow Race” – Use a straw to blow all mini-marshmallows across the finish line in under a minute.
The “Elephant March” – Place a baseball inside a pair of pantyhose. Pull the pantyhose over your head (like a hat) and using only your head, swing the baseball to knock over water bottles in under a minute.
A fun game of “Don’t Blow the Joker” – Stack a deck of cards on top of an upside down cup. Make sure the Joker is the card on the very bottom of the stack. Using only your mouth, blow all the cards off the cup EXCEPT the Joker, in under a minute.
This feisty team earned the right to remove the Best Dock flag from E-Dock and fly it proudly on B-Dock. Congratulations Dan Hasnas and Barbara Otto!
Bicycles: Please use the bike racks to store your bikes. DO NOT store bikes at the entrance to the dock ramps. Bikes found at the entrance to ramps are subject to confiscation.
