





I have observed three species of herons and two species of egrets in the adjoining marsh. We also have a family of river otters which includes at least two pups.
Martin Mitchell is a Marina Shores Member and he can be found on “I” Dock (Dream Catcher slip I-911).
Martin Mitchell was born in Evansville, Indiana on 9 April 1953. He was raised in New Mexico, and received his Bachelor’s degree in geology and biology from the University of New Mexico in 1976. Martin is a long-time resident of Virginia, where he received his Master’s degree in marine science from the College of William and Mary in 1984.
Martin offers more than 26 years of experience as a senior environmental scientist and certified project manager. As a project manager, Martin is experienced in supervising multidisciplinary staffs of engineers, scientists, planners, and technicians, and for training scientists and technicians. He has extensive experience with local, state, and federal environmental regulatory programs and is able to apply this knowledge to a wide range of public and private sector projects.
Martin’s experience includes environmental impact studies and permitting for projects including public highways, rail corridors, public water supply reservoirs, airports, waterfront structures, dredged channels, Department of Defense facilities, and building complexes such as the Smithsonian Institution. Other experience includes NEPA planning studies, feasibility studies, environmental audits, wetland delineations, preparation of mitigation plans, coastal flooding and erosion studies, hazardous waste assessments, landfill studies, dredging and dredge material disposal projects, water quality investigations, groundwater investigations, and design assistance for major public works projects. As part of his experience in private consulting for Architectural/Engineering firms, Martin also served as Health and Safety Officer for two firms.
Martin is a SCUBA diver, boater, and avid naturalist currently residing in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
