Marina Shores Rules & Regulations
Accounts Receivable: Any questions regarding billing of slip rent, dry storage, waterway club, electric reading, dock shop, fuel purchases, late fees, and finance charges may be directed to the accounts receivable department.
Administrative Office: The Administrative Office is the business office for the management of Marina Shores LTD, aka The Marina at Marina Shores, located at 2100 Marina Shores Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23451. E-mail: email@example.com. All leasing and billing questions can be answered through this office.
Attire: Proper attire must be worn while on the property of the Marina. In compliance with city ordinances, thong-type swimwear is NOT allowed in public places. For your protection, we recommend the wearing of shoes at all times while walking about the facility.
Automatic Draft or Charge: Contact the Accounting Department if you would like your slip rent or dry storage rent automatically charged on you credit card each month. There is a 3% Administrative Fee, charged monthly for this service. We also offer Automatic Bank Draft.
Bicycles: Please use the bike racks to store your bikes. Do NOT store bikes at the entrance to the dock ramps.
Boat Inspections: All boats must pass inspection and meet with approval of specific criteria regarding physical condition, appearance and seaworthiness. Boats must be equipped with a Fire Protection System if applicable in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications. Boats must have an automatic Bilge Pump and these permanently installed electrical or mechanical bilge pumps must be in a constant state of readiness. Switches should be installed and labeled in readily discernible locations.
CASH: When paying on your account with cash please make your payment in person in the Administration Office, and obtain a receipt.
Children: Always keep life jackets on children while they are on a boat or dockside. All children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Concerns: All concerns pertaining to any department within the Marina complex should be directed in writing to Customer Service, Marina Shores LTD, P.O. Box 4068, Virginia Beach, VA 23451 or to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Conduct: The Marina at Marina Shores to uphold a family environment, we must insist that no person use any indecent, profane or obscene language or conduct themselves in any indecent or obscene manner. Please report any inappropriate behavior to the Operations Manager or the Administrative Office.
Customer Relations: Assists in resolving customer concerns and is also available to take compliments and suggestions. Newsletter announcements can also be arranged through this department. We encourage you to make us aware of any situation or condition that warrants our attention.
Delinquent Accounts: We do not send out monthly invoices for rent. Payments are due on the 1st of each month, and are late if not received by the close of the business day on the 5th. Late fees are posted if payment is not received, and these fees are NOT negotiable. If fees are 15 days in arrears, the Marina reserves the right to remove a boat from its slip and deem that slip vacant and available for lease. Lessee shall be responsible for all unpaid sums, attorney fees, and any and all expenses incurred in retrieving and/or relocating said boat. The Marina shall have a lien against the boat, its equipment and its contents for any unpaid sums under this agreement, and or from Dock Shop charges. The lessee and the vessel shall have an additional liability for all costs and expenses incurred by the Marina in the enforcement of any provisions of this agreement and attorney’s fees, including but limited to collection of unpaid sums. Owner’s boat will be Red Tagged and shall not be launched while Owner’s account is in the delinquent status, or if all necessary Marina documents (including, but not limited to current insurance information) are not signed by Owner and on file in the office. In the event the boat is red tagged for non-payment of rent or service department charges, a $75.00 administrative fee (Red Tag Fee) will be charged to the Owner’s account.
Deliveries: Members receiving special deliveries of any sort must contact the Administration Office to insure the delivery is received without complications.
Dock Master: Handles all operations for the docks and dry storage. All boat assignments and or reassignments must be approved by the Dock Master.
Dock Shop: The Dock Shop is located in the 1st floor of the building at the fuel dock. The Dock Shop is your location for ice, snacks, fuel and beverages. To contact the Dock Shop for a boat launch call (757) 496-7000.
Dry Storage: Access to the dry storage building is restricted to authorized Marina personnel only. The Dry Storage building (and adjacent launch pad) is the busiest area in the marina. It is very important that all rules be followed so that we may eliminate problems and shorten the time in which it takes to get your boat launched. Monday through Thursday (except holidays) you are welcome to call ahead to have your boat launched to the water or a work rack (as available). Friday, Saturday and Sunday you must be on the property and check-in at the Launch Office to have your boat launched. You must have your member ID card with you and present it upon request to have your boat launched. You must be off your boat and the boat needs to be ready for pickup no later than 30 minutes before the end of each business day. We require written authorization from the boat owner if anyone other than the boat owner will use the boat. No exceptions will be made.
Electric Bills: Wet slip electric meters are read approximately on the 7th of each month; the invoice is mailed on the 8th. Electric fees are due the 1st of the following month.
Electric Pedestal: There is one power pedestal for every two slips. It is the member’s responsibility to ensure that his shore power is plugged in to the correct side of the pedestal. If a member’s boat is found to be plugged in to any other pedestal other than their assigned pedestal, the member will be charged a $100 fine. The pedestals are also equipped with cable TV and phone hook-ups for your convenience. You may contact Cox Communications to set up your account.
Events: Please refer to the newsletter or special announcements via e-mail for information about up coming events. If you would like to see an event featured in the newsletter, please call Customer Service. We encourage member participation for recipes, announcements, etc.
Fire Extinguishers: There are fire extinguishers located on each dock and in the dry storage area. Please familiarize yourself with the locations in the event of a fire.
Fish Cleaning Station: Located near the Dry Storage building. Please help us keep this area clean.
Fuel: Fuel is not allowed to be brought in to the Marina. Only owners are permitted to fuel tanks of their boats. Owners are responsible for any spills on the water, land or in the facilities. Marina Shores sells ethanol fuel (regular, mid-grade and diesel).
Fuel Dock: The fuel dock is not a docking area. It must only be used while fueling your boat or using the pump-out facility. There is absolutely NO SMOKING in this area. If you encounter a problem or emergency while in this area, find the nearest employee to assist you.
Gates: Pier gates are locked at the close of business, and unlocked at the opening of business each day. A key is needed to unlock the gate on both sides. For your safety and the security of all the boats on the pier, do not prop open the gate, or climb over the gate to obtain access to the pier. There is a $20 fee for additional keys.
Garbage: Please help us keep our Marina clean and free of all debris by using the trash containers located at the head of each dock. It is illegal to dispose of any used batteries, oil, or any other environmentally unsafe materials in the trashcans or dumpsters. It is the responsibility of the boat owner, or subcontractor, to dispose of these materials property by removing it from the premises. Violators will be prosecuted.
Guests: Guests are welcome at all times as long as they are accompanied by a member with a valid ID card. Pool guests must be accompanied by the member at their own risk. There is a $10 daily charge per person per day for Pool Guests.
Hours: The hours of operation for the various departments change according to the season. Changes will be posted and/or announced in the newsletter and via e-mails. No refund or rebate will be given when the marina is closed for maintenance, repair or inclement weather.
ICE: Iceboxes are located next to the Dock Shop and Dry Storage building. Please pay for ice in the Dock Shop.
I.D. Cards: All members are required to have a current ID card. If your card has expired, please stop by the Administration Office to obtain a new one.
Inclement Weather: The Marina may close early or be closed during inclement weather.
Insurance: All members are required to furnish Marina Shores with a copy of their Certificate of Insurance. All members are required to maintain marine insurance including Protection and Indemnity (P&I) coverage at a minimum of Three Hundred Thousand Dollars ($300,000) and shall name Marina Shores, LTD as an Additional Insured. Marina Shores does not insure Owner’s boat, equipment, or other property, in on or about Owner’s boat against fire, theft or damage.
General Wear and Tear: Lifting, moving and depositing a vessel will result in some wear and tear on every boat. Due to the diversity in equipment with each manufacturer, the Marina will not be liable for damages to trim tabs, transducers, GPS antennas, soft tops or any like adjustable equipment, or to a vessel resulting from but not limited to trailer loading and unloading, handling, housing or work rack replacement.
Launch Office: The Launch Office is located in the Dock Shop. All launches of boats to a work rack or to the water from the Dry Storage building must be cleared through this office. Your ID card must be shown when launching your boat. Reservations are handled in the order in which they are received. If you are going to be delayed (longer than 30 minutes), please advice the Dock Shop. All walk-in requests will be handled on a first come, first serve basis, after reservations. Please note that this is not the Administration Office. If you are a new member bringing a boat in for storage or you are removing your vessel from the property, you must go through the Administration Office.
Laundry: Commercial coin operated machines are available for member’s use. The laundry facility is located next to the restrooms adjacent to the Dry Storage building. Washing and drying of clothing on docks, decks or finger piers is not permitted. Marina is not responsible for the loss or damage of clothing being laundered, or left in the machines.
Lease Agreement: All persons keeping a boat at Marina Shores are required to have an active and up to date lease agreement. It must be signed and dated. This lease is a legally binding contract. All parties must adhere to the provisions of the lease in full. Written notice must be given 30 days prior to the expiration of the lease if the Owner will be not be renewing.
Leasing Agent: The Leasing Agent facilitates leasing of all dry storage and wet slip contracts. The Leasing Office is located within the Administration Office. The Leasing Agent also serves as the customer-relations contact.
Lifts: As a new member of Marina Shores, you will receive 2 complimentary trailer loads, one when you arrive and one when you depart at the end of the lease period. Any additional trailer loads will incur an expense of $50.00 each time.
Mailboxes: Mailboxes are available for Marina members living aboard their vessel from the Administration Office.
Mechanics & Outside Contractors: Members are allowed to hire mechanics and equipment suppliers to work on their boat on Marina property. All contractors must provide proof of workman’s compensation and a minimum of $1,000,000 in general liability insurance before work can begin. Marina Shores LTD must be listed on their policy as a policyholder. Insurance certificate can be faxed to (757) 496-3287. All contractors and suppliers must check in with the Launch Office before commencing the job, and when the job has been completed.
Membership in Good Standing: This means your Marina Shores membership record contains the mandatory documents required by Administration and your personal information is current and accurate. Membership requirements include: A signed Lease Agreement, Copy of Certificate of Insurance with $300,000 P & I coverage and Marina Shores listed as an additional insured/additional interest on the policy. Copy of boat registration, and a current Marina Shores ID card.
Member’s Parking: Members have ample parking throughout the Marina. Do not park in designated spaces for the restaurants or boat brokers unless you are patrons. Marina reserves the right to limit and govern all parking spaces.
Member’s Newsletter: Our newsletter and e-mail announcements are our way of communicating to members the upcoming events, changes and other pertinent information. Please read them so you will be informed of marina activity.
Night Launches: A night launch is when a boat owner wants his boat taken out of dry storage but will not arrive to use it until after closing hours of the Dry Storage building. Night launch reservations must be made to the Launch Office at least one hour prior to the close of business.
Notice to Terminate: A 30-day written notice is required on all lease terminations, pursuant to lease paragraph 3. All accounts must be settled and closed out through the Administration Office before removing your boat. All personal property must be removed from dock and dock boxes. If Owner’s boat is not removed at the end of the term, then Owner shall pay to the Marina a holdover fee equal to the month-to-month rate until boat is removed.
Patios Area Near I Dock: The charcoal grills and patio at the east side of the parking lot near I Dock are for members use. Please do not leave any hot fires unattended. Use trash receptacles for your garbage, DO NOT put hot embers in the trash receptacles. Use the metal / ash can for charcoal ashes. Fire Extinguishers and Water Hoses are available for emergencies. Use of these grills is at your own risk. Call 911 if fire spreads beyond the grill.
Personal Watercraft: Storage of personal watercraft is available. Check with the Leasing Department for availability.
Pets: We welcome pets; however, we ask that their owner always accompany them. All animals must be leashed while in the Marina complex. Please toilet your animal on grassy locations away from Marina offices and restaurants. Remove pet waste and discard into appropriate receptacles. Pets are permitted only if they do not disturb other members and guests.
Piers: Piers are to be kept clean at all times. Loose gear is not to be stored on the docks. Hoses & electric lines should not cross piers. Charcoal fires or grills of any kind are NOT PERMITTED on docks or on boats at the dock.
Pool: Open daily 10am – 7pm (weather permitting) Memorial Day – Labor Day. The pool is for members only. Your membership card must be shown to the pool attendant to access the pool area. All members and guests swim at their own risk. Pool rules are posted and should be followed at all times. An adult must accompany all children under 14 years of age. Absolutely NO GLASS is permitted in the pool area.
Pool Guests: Members are allowed to bring guests to the pool. There is a guest fee of $10.00 per day per guest.
Poolside Lounge / Book Swap Library: The book swap library provides an additional membership benefit for those who enjoy literature with leisure. If you take a book, leave a book. Lounge privileges extend to members and their guests with the understanding that each person is responsible for cleaning up the area after use.
Pre-Paid Accounts: Any member paying in advance on an annual lease for a wet slip or dry storage can receive a 5% discount. NO REFUND shall be made to the Owner, if Owner’s boat is removed from the facility prior to the end of the term, or any renewal term. Pre-pay discount must not be combined with any other discount.
Pump Out Station: No refuse, solid or liquid, shall be discharged overboard. The pump out station must be used.
Ramps & Decks: The ramps and decks throughout the marina may be slippery when wet or iced over. Please use caution at all times to avoid accidents.
Restrooms and Showers: The restrooms and showers are located poolside, and in the Dry Storage building. The handicapped showers are in the Dry Storage restrooms.
Smoking: Permitted on the upper and lower decks of the Administration Building, swimming pool, and designated areas in restaurants. Absolutely NO SMOKING is allowed near or on the Fuel Dock.
Subcontractors: Are allowed to perform services on owner’s boat while boat is at the Marina. All subcontractors must have a certificate of insurance on file with the Marina, inclusive of at least $1,000,000 liability coverage, showing Marina Shores, LTD as a co-insured. All sub-contractors must check into the Dock Shop upon arrival and departure.
Step Hulls: The design of a boat with a step hull is such that the lift truck cannot pick up the boat with forks supporting the length of the hull: therefore, the chance of hull or bottom damage is vastly increased. Owners of step hull bottom boats hereby waive the right to expect Marina Shores Ltd. to be responsible for any damage to the hull or bottom.
Swimming: Authorized in Member’s Pool only. Swimming, diving and fishing strictly prohibited on and around the docks, and finger piers.
Theft: Please report all theft to Virginia Beach Police Department (757-385-0000) and advise the Administration Office immediately. Marina Shores is not liable for theft; however, by advising us it will enable us to take steps to help prevent further problems.
Water Charge: There is a $5.00 per month per boat fresh water fee charged to all accounts.
Waterway Club Memberships: Marina Shores offers Waterway Club Memberships for people who want the benefits of a first-class marina while keeping their boat at home. For information on Waterway Club Memberships, call the Leasing /Customer Service office (757) 496-7000.
Wet Slip Assignment: Choice of slips will be based on length, beam, and adaptability. Any member requesting a slip reassignment must see the Leasing Agent.
Wet Slips for Dry Storage Customers: All Dry Storage members MUST call the Administration Office Monday – Friday 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM to reserve the use of a free weekend wet slip. A slip will be assigned to you for the duration of the time reserved (Friday, Saturday & Sunday). There are a limited number of slips available. They are assigned on a first come first serve basis. Please be considerate of other members who have reserved the slip after your reservation ends. The boat must be returned to Dry Storage at the end of the day your reservation ends.
Work Rack: Work racks are available to members on a first-come, first-serve basis. Owner-performed repairs and maintenance on a boat will be allowed if such work is performed in a reasonable manner and does not inconvenience or disturb Marina tenants. The extent of boat repairs and maintenance at dockside are at the discretion of the Marina’s management. Power washing and bottom paintings are not allowed to be performed by members on the Marina’s property or over an impervious surface. All work is done at owner’s risk. Boats left unattended for more than 30 minutes will be returned to their assigned storage location. You must be present to request a work rack; no call-ins. Wet slip customers receive a free work rack (upon availability) Monday thru Wednesday (holidays excluded). Any additional day after the first three days will be charged at a rate of $20 per day.
